Acer Sets the Trend in Notebook Design with the New Aspire Gemstone Series

Jakarta, June 29 2007, Acer introduces Gemstone, the new distinctive and stylish design for their Aspire series to address
the need and expectation of consumer notebook users. With the new Aspire notebooks, Acer is the worlds first to offer Dolby®
Home Theatre for virtual surround sound across the full line of consumer notebooks.
The new Aspire Gemstone notebook has a noticeably rounded and fuller shape; a bold diversion from the traditional design
that is square in shape, said Jason Lim, Country Manager for Acer Indonesia. The name gemstone reflects the philosophy of
the design so the notebooks are regarded as precious personal treasures expressing status and value at a glance, he continued.
Acer's design team worked with the internationally renowned BMW Group DesignworksUSA whose latest work includes the BMW
Mini Cooper to study design trends, develop the concept and visualize new forms. Findings showed that three of the most important
design features were color and material, branding and naming and shape treatment.
With these findings in mind, the new Acer Aspire series was created. The chosen name Gemstone reflects the shape of a
finely-cut opal; and is very comfortable to the touch. The cover features a shiny jet-black frame encasing a satin-finish
sub-layer with the Acer logo floating above like a shimmering holographic 3D design. The light ceramic-like interior is a
striking contrast against the black exterior and when turned on a striking blue enlightener media flow frames the keyboard
and joins the speaker grill, the sapphire like Empowering Key which is designed to help users manage their application settings
and touch-sensitive Acer Media Touch Keys.
During the event, the striking design was also complimented by the exclusive notebook cases designed by six prominent
Indonesian designers, namely: Ronald V. Gaghana, Irsan, Tri Handoko, Priyo Oktaviano, Deden Siswanto and Barli. Most people
feel that notebooks are purely technological breakthrough, while we at Acer would also like to show our innovation in design.
This is why we have chosen to collaborate with six of Indonesia's finest young designers, explained Mr. Lim. Each designer
was chosen because of their individual style in design and we hope that through their designs we can start to see the connection
between IT and fashion.
This is a very new concept for me, to work with an IT company, said Ronald V. Gaghana as one of the fashion designers
to design the exclusive notebook case, adding that I take this as another challenge to push my designs even more to accommodate
today's consumers.
In addition to the application of the latest design concept, the Gemstone Aspire series is also equipped with the latest
technological breakthroughs which are designed to give consumers amazing entertainment. These sophisticated entertainment
features include the Acer Arcade Deluxe Media Center enhancement which helps to optimize cinematic experience and also manage
